Before we left Cambodia for Vietnam, I did a lot of research on Vietnamese food and where to get the best food in Saigon. We were going to be there a month so I wanted to try as much amazing food as possible. Lucky for us, one of the most talked about places is the restaurant Bánh Cuốn Hải Nam, and it was located ten minutes away from where we were living!!!
We visited the restaurant, Bánh Cuốn Hải Nam, many times during our month-long stay in Saigon. It’s a no frills local place with local prices (incredibly cheap).
We quickly became addicted to this place’s signature dish, Bánh Cuốn. It’s a dish made of a delicate, melt in your mouth rice paper crepe, stuffed with mushrooms, ground pork, and shrimp inside. You dip this roll in a little side dish of chili sauce and you are in heaven!!! It also comes with lettuce and bean sprouts on the side.
Hands down this was my favorite dish from Vietnamese cuisine I tried while in Vietnam.
We also had:
the tasty Bahn Beo. It’s sweet rice pancakes sprinkled with ground pork and dried seasoning.
Fried Crab rolls wrapped with lettuce and vermicelli.
I found a YouTube video of a guy going to the exact same place and having what we ordered. It’s a great video that shows how this delicate and delicious food is cooked:
