When you stay more than two weeks in Saigon, you start to run out of the “popular” tourist attractions. At that point you should do some searching for what is out there.
I like looking at Trip Advisor forums and Lonely Planet. For really obscure tourist sites, I’d go to Atlas Obscura. Not only do they have off the beaten path recommendations, they have great stories on bizarre, little known tourist destinations.
I found out about the “Pink Church” from a Trip Advisor forum. The actual name of the church is Tan Dinh Church. The pictures of this place looked beautiful and that’s why I wanted to see it in real life.
We took an uber, since it was a bit of a walk from our neighborhood.
When we went, the church was open to walk through. There is no fee and you’re welcome to explore the grounds. In addition to the church there is a graveyard and outside altars.
The church was built during the French colonial period in the 1880s. I have never seen a church exterior painted such a pretty color before.
